On a lighter note, I want to tell you all about my red shoes. The infamous red shoes. You need to know a little background about me that I am a fairly simple girl. When my husband and I were dating he described me as "low maintenance". I was so mad at him for saying that to me. I really want to be high maintenance, well sort of. I don't get the latest name brands, I buy shoes from Shoe Carnival, purses from Target, jewelry from Claire's. I don't really shop a lot or get my nails done that often. I need to note though that inside of my mind, I am a princess! I think the real issue is that I am really just kind of frugal, not that I don't want nice things, but honestly after the loss of a child, your perspective changes and things aren't as important anymore.
Now, back to my beloved red shoes. For some reason, 18 months ago, I wanted to buy these shoes called Crocs. Honestly, at this point they were out of style, but they were still overpriced. I wanted some shoes that I could just stick my feet in without doing much work. I don't know if I was just going through a lazy stage or what was wrong with me. So, one day I was in Wal-Mart and I saw a big section of imitation, pretend, Crocs. They were probably called Croos or some other generic name.
I looked through the vast amount of shoes and the only ones they had in my size were red. I think they were like $5 so, I said what the heck, I will buy them.
Since that day, my red shoes and I have been on a journey. I took them to Disney World, New Orleans, Mobile, Gulf Shores, Huntsville, and Florida. I take them out to eat and to the store (not just on quick errands - its so sad).
Lately, me and my red shoes have been inseparable. For some reason my husband never says, why are you wearing those hideous shoes outside. He actually never says anything about my red shoes. I don't know if he is just the best husband ever, feels sorry for me, or just too cheap to tell me to go and buy new shoes.
I looked down at them today and I kinda feel bad about the shoes. They never match the clothes I wear and I can just imagine what other people think when they see me in these crazy red shoes. I was thinking maybe I should retire the shoes, but I stuck my feet in them again today and said, maybe not.
I think the red shoes are like me - a little tired, a little worn-out, they have been through a lot, but they are comfortable, loveable, and fun to be around and they are a little funny looking.
For now, my red shoes and I will continue our journey to the park, to the mailbox, to 5 star restaurants (just kidding)

OMGosh...I have a blue pair just like them- and they are the ugliest things ever.....but also the most comfortable. Hubby hates mine too. And he cringes every time we go out and i slip them on. They're almost past the point of redemption- so I'll just keep wearing them til they give up the ghost. They've been good to me...and for me. And that's all that really matters at the moment!
Lol - I have a pair of black Crocs! i SWORE I would never wear them, but I got suckered in. But boy are they comfy. I keep them in my classroom and the minute I get to work, I step out of my sensible shoes and stick my feet into them. They have been with me through both pregnancies so there is some sentimental value to them.
I am WAAAYYYYY frugal too. My husband nags and nags and once in a while when I am tired of hearing him nag I got get a professional pedicure (why pay $40-$50 when I can do them myself?).
I have a pair of black ones that I wear nearly everyday. These are some of the ugliest shoes. But I always find my way back to them. I think that it is because they are really comfortable and I just don't feel like putting anything else on. Everyday, I feel bad about not putting much into wearing the other many shoes that I have.
Yvonne, I have the Exact same shoes, from Wal-Mart, in red, $5. :) good taste. ;)
They are so comfortable!
I have a dress I have had since highschool. I love it, I feel so pretty in. I've had to have it mended a couple times and it got stuck in a motorcycle exhaust while on a crappy date, but I can relate. Go red shoes.
Hear from Mel's round-up...I love that they are red. I say whatever makes you comfy is ok with me.
I totally relate! Mine aren't Croc-like but they are RED and I wear them almost everyday. Hooray for red shoes!
